Championing reading for adults in Cheltenham and Gloucester

30 October @ 10:00 am - 3 November @ 4:00 pm

Read Easy Cheltenham and Gloucester will be manning the Cheltenham Pod on the High Street in Cheltenham during October half term, to raise awareness of their free one-to-one reading support for adults. You can drop in any time between 10am to 4pm Monday 30 October to Friday 3 November, for an informal chat.

They are particularly keen to meet adults in Cheltenham who would like to improve their reading skills, and any potential reading coaches. They also encourage any organisations who may be able to refer adult learners to drop in.

Since forming almost six years ago, the local charity has grown steadily in size, and now has around 40 reading coaches and up to 40 adult reading learners at any one time across Cheltenham and Gloucester.

Using a tried and tested teaching method called Turning Pages, a learner reader works their way from basic phonics through to fluent and confident reading with the support of their coach. It can be as quick as a couple of months, or as long as a couple of years, as coaching is tailored to the individual.

Reading coaches receive training and do not need any prior teaching experience. The satisfaction of seeing a reader grow in confidence and ability, opening up new possibilities for them, is one of the key drivers for coaches.
