National Waterways Museum
With its dramatic location on the banks of the Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal in Cheshire, extensive in-door displays, boat trips and historic buildings, the museum offers a great day out where time slows down and history comes to life.
Sitting where the Shropshire Union Canal meets the Manchester Ship Canal and the River Mersey, this transhipment dock, once a noisy, bustling hub, is now an area of calm and tranquillity.
Come and savour the peacefulness of being outdoors by the canal, absorb the history emanating from the Grade II listed buildings, and learn about the lives and work of the canal people as you stroll around this seven-acre site.
During each year, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions, holds special events for Easter, Halloween and Christmas (additional charges may apply) as well as Canal Town every Sunday during the summer when there is a different theme each Sunday.
Friendly dogs are welcome, and we ask that they be kept on a lead at all times.
