Opening date revealed for new quirky café-bar in historic square as excitement grows

Loungers, the West Country‑based group, will open Coro Lounge in King’s Square, Gloucester on May 7 creating around 30 new jobs.

Coro Lounge will be open all day, every day, serving breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and drinks, with dedicated kids’, gluten‑free and vegan menus.

The former Chambers pub is currently being transformed by the Loungers design team into a warm, eclectic “home from home” – their signature style.

The name ‘Coro’ – meaning ‘choir’ – is a nod to Gloucester Cathedral and the city’s rich choral heritage.

The opening date has been welcomed by the three councillors who represent the area on Gloucester City Council which approved plans for the site last year.

Councillor Pam Tracey (C) said she is really glad Coro will be opening soon as she hopes it will bring a lot more people to that part of the city centre.

“It’s great,” she said. “And it’s great to see them investing in Gloucester. It blends in well with The Forum and King’s Square.”

Councillor Howard Hyman (LD) said he too is looking forward to its opening.

“The Coro Lounge is a much welcome addition to the regeneration in the city centre,” he said.

“I note they will have an extensive menu and welcoming space catering for everyone.

“I appreciate using the word Coro reflecting the city’s choral heritage especially as the cathedral is a short distance away.

“It is good that the Coro Lounge will be open in good time for the Three Choirs Festival being held in Gloucester this year.”

And Councillor Rebecca Trimnell (LD) said she too will look forward to visiting Coro in May.

“We are eagerly anticipating the opening of Coro Lounge. It is a vibrant addition to King’s Square especially now with the opening of The Forum and Hotel Indigo. I am confident it’ll be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.

“I am certainly looking forward to visiting Coro Lounge when it opens in May and would encourage residents across Gloucester to check it out”.

Loungers say Coro Lounge’s all‑day menu will cater for every taste, from hearty comfort food to healthier choices and indulgent treats.

And families will be a major focus, with games, books, colouring materials, high chairs and baby‑changing facilities available for Little Loungers.

Coro Lounge will offer a welcoming space for regular meet‑ups, business catch‑ups, book clubs, knitting groups, parent‑and‑baby sessions, creative workshops and more, they said.

And local groups looking for a friendly, flexible venue will be encouraged to get in touch.

Kira Borlase, general manager of Coro Lounge, said: “We can’t wait to welcome everyone to Coro Lounge from Thursday 7th May. We’re passionate about becoming a genuine part of the communities we serve, so we’re really looking forward to meeting our neighbours and playing an active role locally.

“If anyone is looking for a warm, friendly space to host events, groups or gatherings, please do pop in once we’re open. We’d love to chat and see how we can help.”

The opening marks another milestone in Loungers’ growing presence across Gloucestershire. Local guests may already know the group from Portivo Lounge in Gloucester Quays, Rosado Lounge in Tewkesbury, Fioro Lounge in Cheltenham, Curio Lounge in Stroud, Toro Lounge in Cirencester and Cosy Club in Cheltenham.
